I'm looking for a cab tractor to round bale with and wondered what would work best. I'm using a vermeer 504 Super I baler that works best with over 60 HP. I am currently using a Farmall 756 which handles the baler very well, but would like to get out of the dust andthe heat. Thanks

What you describe is why I got a 7710 Ford C/H/A, liked it so well added a 7610 set up the same way for the other baler. My own bias is the series II cabs are a lot nicer (and newer) but I feel like the series I cabs are easier to see out of.

I just got a blackbelly Allis Chalmers 7000 this summer. It has a wet clutch pack, so no throw out bearings to worry about. I got mine for 7750, and that included shipping it 225 miles. It has a cab, heat, Cold A/C, and a radio. This tractor is 106 hp stock, so a little bigger, but agile also. It is easy on fuel too. Mowed approx 40 acres of pretty light grass with a 20 ft batwing on 18 gallons of fuel, that is almost just 2 gallons and hour! I would get a black belly over a maroon, many improvements. It has a few leaks, but won't be too hard to fix. If you want more info, give me an e-mail and I can help you out.

Maybe throw a roll-guard canopy on it ;It's like being under a shade tree. Nothing could be much better to round bale with than a good 756. It should fall from high range to reverse & vise versa; you sit high enough that you're up out of any dust if any exists. We've got 14 tractors sitting around & nothing is as pleasant to use as the 826 (close relative to the 756).

Went through the same thing last year. Wound up with a Zetor 7711, 65 hp, cab-air. It does not have any trouble with a 505I Vermeer(not superI).
Get as many gears as you can, seems like I always want to go a little faster or slower.

I looked at specs and asked around. I have NOT used all these tractors. I'm not trying to start a color war, but I would rate them this way: 1-John Deere 2750, 2-IH 784, Case IH 685, 3=Ford 5000, 5600, 5610, 5600, 5610.

I'm sure there are many others, but used 65-75 cab-air are hard to find in my area. Like the other post said check Fastline. The dealers in there seem to ask high prices with plenty of wiggle room. Cab air will spoil you. Oh, and be sure to check hyd. pump flow. Slow hydraulics are one of my pet peeves. Good luck.

I really like mine - 75HP - MFWD - no cab - out in the open - ah - the good life

EXCEPT when the PTO doesn't work

I have the same baler and I pull it with a 5600 ford w/cab (62hp), when I get on some of the hills around here I need more tractor. If all I had to get on was good level ground 60hp would be fine. My next tractor will be 80-85 hp w/cab.

We do not like to admit it but those 20+ years old tractors are somewhat tired on HP. They have served us well. We are located in the mountains of East Tennessee and most of our customers have tractors in the 45-60 HP range. We have sold over 700 New Vermeer I balers and our customers have no problems using the 40-60 HP tractors round baling with Vermeer I balers. Most of those farmers have non-cab tractors 2 wheel drive tractors. If you add a Cab & 4WD on a tractor you just lost 15-20 HP so now a 60 HP tractor equipped with Cab & 4 wd is really only a 40-45 HP tractors on the PTO. I know some one will say my tractor turns 60 HP on the dynamometer but it is not doing that with the AC on high and pulling a hill with a baler behind it. A 2wd open tractor does maximize the usable PTO HP better than a 4WD tractor. So if you are purchasing a 4wd cab tractor and need PTO HP you had better get 15-20 HP more than you would if it was a 2wd open station tractor.
