Good news first. Made 86 bales in a little over 4 hours. The new to me JD 4230 is a dream to bale with compared to the old 4010. Bad news. Looks like the Hesston 1014 is not the machine for me. Ran it for a little while yesterday. Couldn't go any faster than 1st gear on the 4010. Cutter bar seemed to cut OK, but would feed in blobs. Crop is heavy, but it would travel 5 or 6 feet with nothing coming out the back, then all of a sudden a big blob would come out. Very bunchy looking windrow. Let the hired hand take over. Little while later he came out to the field where I was baling to tell me that the pitman arm pivot shaft had broke. Told him to use the sicle mower and finish with that. If Allen lived closer to me I could tag along with him and a good used NH haybine in my price range just might materialize.

John
