fixing an old new idea sicke mower......help!

bringing this old mower back to life. It works of off pto only. My question is that it is empty on fluids in both the gear boxs. What should I fill them with and how much since I cannot find an overlflow and and the only way to fill them is by szerk fittings or to take the whole top off to expose the gear. Please any help would be greatful!

My NI mower is similar to yours I think. I lent it to an old timer and finally it's back in my yard after several years. This fellow used "gun grease". I imagine MP or EP would do. They likely used gear oil (SAE 90/140) when new. They run so slow that the grease keeps things lubed and doesn't leak out as easily. HTH.
