can somebody plz tell me or give me instructions on how to time a nh 68 bailer for me i would be gratefull i have been looking for instructions for 5 days now i have just found this site and im hopeing that some body can help me with this. thank you for taking yor time to read this

I think all the older NH balers are timed the same way. My 273 is timed the easy way(with the marks) the same as has been desribed for the 68 so I assume that if it is done the correct exact way it would also be the same. When a 273 is in time the needles enter the chamber 3/4" behind the leading edge of the pluger. If the needles do not enter the chamber at the proper time, jump the chain ahead or back to adjust time. Like I said I assume(always dangerous) that a 68 is the same as a 273. The marks on the knoter clutch that the others talk about are rarly if ever lined up when the baler is in time. If not sure how to time a baler call the local NH dealer and tell them to send out their baler mechanic. Timing must have split secand accuracy or it is very possible to shear off the needles which are very expensive.

Bradley, I'll take a stab at it, although its been a while since I had a 67 baler, which should be timed the same. At the front top of the frame where the plunger is there are 2 notches cut in the frame. First take the needle yoke and pull it by hand back into home position. Knotter drive gears should not be tripped, yet. Rotate flywheel in direction of normal operation until plunger arm is vertical between the 2 notches. Look at the knotter drive gear. There is a notch in the gear and another in the hub it runs next to. If these notches are not close, I think half or one quarter of an inch, loosen the knotter drive chain, take it loose at the knotter, and line up the notches. Replace and tighten chain. If chain is too long to get tight, take out a link. If chain is badly worn, replace chain. Then trip knotter manually and go through tying cycle by hand, checking clearances of needles. If OK, run baler with tractor at slow speed and trip by hand. It should work OK then. Someone posted a better explanation on this forum and there is a way to check the postings but I'm not computer literate to pull it up. Good luck.
