Any ideas on how big a tractor it would take to run a 510 deere baler on good level going? Anybody ever use a 720 or 730 2cyl? How big a bale will a 510 make? What is a decent 510 worth? Everything is worn but plenty serviceable it would seem. Thanks for the help!!

I ran a 510 with an Oliver 1600, 60 hp.

As I know by personal experience, a 510 is worth no more than $500.

Bob is dead on a JD510's value.. A set of belts are more than the baler is worth. JD510 & 410 balers look good because they just will not bale hay unless the hay is in perfect condition and you can whistle Dixie standing on your head.

I understand they _sell_ for the price you mention below, but a JD x10 series certasinly is not _worth_ more than $500 - they aren't much of a baler compared to the better stuff out there that makes a much better, less spoilage, bale.

I hear you man as they used lots of them here before the much improved 530 but this is a yuppie market; close to a metroplex (Dallas-Ft. Worth) and the hobby farmers drive up the price, on everything, big time.
