Would a 42 disel horse power tractor run a 6' bush hog? And what size of blower would it run. Thanks

Paul,
James2 makes some good points. I guess "tall" grass is the key here. However, I run a 5' bush hog behind 1940 9N with about 20HP at the PTO. Yes - there are times when I have to pull the throttle back, but generally speaking, it can do the job.
Difference of opinions...

We filled a 35 ft silo with a 40 hp Ford running the blower, but a 50 hp IH 450 did a lot better. Don't remember the impeller diameter, but was the middle size Kool model, short table, made in the mid sixties. Had a long table Gehl before it. Relative to the mower it depends on what you are cutting. If it is heavy growth grass/brush, 6 ft is really too much, 5 ft is perfect. I would only use a 7 ft if cutting short grass/mowing pasture. We have a 7 ft we used on a 60 hp tractor and it was all it wanted in tall grass. Now use it on an 80 hp tractor, and get along fine. The 7 ft would overwhelm the 40 hp Ford, but with the 5 ft, it would go anywhere.

Was interested what others recommended and returned to this posting. I was originally puzzled about the blower question, because few want to fill a silo, but answered with what I knew. It has now dawned on me that you are probably asking about a SNOW blower. All I know about snow blowers is that they use a lot of hp.

You can easily run a 6' or 7' bush hog with 42HP... Not sure about a blower...
