New Holland 451 mower question

Saturday I bought a very nice #451 New Holland sickle bar mower. I've got TWO plans for it. #1 is to use it to mow a couple pond banks that I now weedeat. #2 is with the drought we're just getting out of, my soy beans are toast.... Looks like the best plan is to cut and bale 'em later on if they don't make a decent crop. I plan on using the 451 to cut them.

The mower currently has what I'm calling the "standard" 7' cutter bar. My question is, did New Holland offer that mower with a 9' bar? And if so, I wonder if it's still available through New Holland parts dept. I have an owners manual and parts/service manual bought off of ebay, but won't get it for a few days. My amswer will no doubt be in the parts manual, but I'd like to satisfy my curiousity now.

Also, consider whether the break back system will stand the stress of the 9 ft bar in heavy grass. I bought a JD 9 ft, and cut it down to 7 for this reason. Mike

About $750 for the long bar, but there is a difference before/after 1972. Knife bar is $90 or $100 for underserrated depending on which side of the break you are on. How bad do you need that two feet?

Yes...the New Holland dealer will be able to fix you up with a 9' bar. Just remember to take a BIG checkbook with you!

Indy,
The 450"s were available with a 9" bar, I am sure the 451"s were as well. I have a spare manual for a 450, if it is any good to you. I think the only difference is an extra section in the knife and heavier plates in the rocker head area. Take care Roy

Roy,
I got a 450 last month without any manuals and would be interested in yours if you still have/don't want it. Thanks

Pre-she-ate it, but I've got manuals on the way. Just had to have that "instant gratification" that only the internet can provide!
