I bought a

I recently purchased a Fahr KM22 drum mower. It has a small vented fill cap on top of an oil reservoir, but I don't have a clue as to what the level should be. I can't find any check plug or other indicators. Do I fill it to the top? Does it use 90 wt. gear oil or ? The guy I bought it from was of no help, as it had been his fathers.
Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

I would recommend EP"00" Grease and only 1/3-1/2 full.

I don't really know what EP"00" grease is, but this tank runs between the drums and contains the shaft that runs them. It is about half full of what looks like gear oil, and looks like it would hold several gallons.

The original lubricant was the equivalent of EP"00". This is a fluid grease that flows like molasses. If you use gear oil you likely will have seal problems.

Can't see a drain plug on it. The stuff thats in there seems thinner than molassas, but could be the right thing. Could I just add EP"00" to it when it gets low or would that cause problems. Mowed about 6 acres of thick down stuff with it today and man does it cut. I would like to see what it could do when it was new.
