i have a nh 68 with a 53as kicker. I never have a problem with knots. but i am getting more broken bales because the plastic twine is melted in half. so i am suspecting something with the kicker. any ideas? if i switch to the rope type twine, do you think this would help?

Rick's right --- bales too long !! I found anything less than 36" would work ok. BTW , you'll still get the odd burn-through even then , due to lack of a charge of hay at the end of a row for example.

Your bales are too long. The thrower is trying to suck the bales out from inbetween the tension rails in the chamber.

well i checked the bale length the average was about 32" I do remeber a few wild long ones. I guess they pushed the one in front of it just enough into the kicker to melt the string.

would the other kind of twine hold up to this better?

i dont even think they had plastic twine when this kicker was made

or how do i keep it from making those long bales?
