I'll be trying this out on our '54 Fordson Major. The fellow I bought it from had well groomed trails, but has switched to ATV and implements. The mower reads "For grass only", but the old gent said he went through small brush and the like with a similar powered tractor. I don't want to push my luck with this 'grass cutter', so is there any advice on what I can cut? I want to take out shrubs and low brush, biggest diameter might be 1".
thanks for any input

Seems to me they put that sticker there for a reason.

Trying to compare what "other" KK's will do is pointless, as most brands build several quality levels of rotary cutters. Aparently yours is light duty.

I looked at the King Kutter several times, for the price they make a pretty decent product

I wound up buying a heavier well used Bush Hog brand chopper for about same money as new KK, my property is severely overgrown and I grind up some pretty big stuff, bush hog is now super-well used but still doing the job

if you indeed stick to grass or 1 inch or less twigs and keep a proper shear pin in, you should get lots of use out of that KK machine

get into the rocks or big stuff and I think you will wind up needing a gearbox

I have a 5' King Cutter mower that I have used to mow 4 acres for the past several years. It's a belt drive, so the higher the grass the more the belt is prone to slip.

That said, I let my grass get fairly high and have had no problems with the machine. I have only replaced the belt once....if you get a limb or debris into the belt then expect short life. If you keep the ground speed set to match the mowing conditions you should have no problems mowing grass. When the grass gets a foot or so I switch to my shreader....small weeds are no problem, but if your considering small tough weeds much taller than a foot or so you might be better off with a shreader.....
