Submitting this for father--Purchased new belt(s) for 5580 Hesston Baler and having trouble with installation. How do you get slack in the belt to put it back together. Do not have an owner's manual. Sorry if this is vague, father doesn't know computers and I sure don't know farm equipment. Thanks for help.

I have alway opened the gate up, used a short peace of chain to go around the top roller and the belt tension roller, let the gate down and all belt will be loose.

Just be carefull.

I have the same baler and had the same problem when I first got it!!! I don't know there should be a bracket or something on built on there but mine didn't as I looked and looked. So I would open the baler up all the way etc. Then place 2 pipes under the support brackets for the roller that sort of sticks out at the back when its all the way open. This roller assembly I'm talking about is hooked to the tension springs. So the when you lower the the back (door) down it stays still thus loosing off the belts.

I hope I explained it well enough. That was the easiest fix I could thing of. They were 1 1/2" pipes about 5 ft long. I cut a little knotch in them to kind a hook into the roller bracket better. Later on I welded some brackets and made it so I could just do it with out packing those stupid pipes around.

Make sure you use 3ply belting!!! I used 2 ply and they didn't stand up worth a darn.
