I installed new bearings on my 469 wobble box pivots and had some trouble getting it to "look right". With the bearings seated fully on the center hog the races for the bearings don't press all the way flush into the yoke on each side. I installed the caps and snugged em up thinking this would force things into proper position and when I did so, it caused the yoke to bind. I removed everything and tried again, this time I equalled the spacing on both races (amount I could see on both sides of the yoke) and shimmed the caps with gaskets made of thin cork paper. It pivots smoothly.

Question: Should the races have fit completely into the yoke on each outer side? The bearing seals are flush with the inside of the yoke and the bearings are flush with the end of the shaft they ride on so I don't think I can get them on any further. Just doesn't look right and I didn't pay that close attention when it came apart. Parts book shows a "shim" at the caps but not sure of the qty other than 1 and what I took out originally was extremely thin almost a gasket of sorts.

I haven't done any cutting yet after my repair, just ran the unit for a minute to check things after I hand turned the unit. I don't want to break anything else this year.. (hence the name "Rexalot")

Rex, if you installed the tapered roller bearings (with the smaller tapered end outward and the seal towards the inside) all the way on till the bearings were seated and could not go any further, then I am not concerned that the race did not go in flush. As a matter of fact, they never quite do go in as far as flush. Use equal thickness of shims on both sides till you have no endplay, but basicly no preload either. Steve

Thats exactly what I did, seal going in towards the ctr of the yoke, and then shimmed both sides out using "gaskets" that I cut from a gasket paper. I think I may have 1 more on one side than the other, but the yoke pivoted smoothly with both caps bolted down tight. (I added one shim/gasket on one side, installed caps, tightend, checked for freedom of movement, and then repeated adding another shim/gasket as I thought necessary on the opposite side until it felt smooth.)

Whew. Thanks for the reply I"ll be able to run with piece of mind that when something else breaks, atleast I did this repair right.
