I am looking for a baler to replace my JD 14T which I am sick of fixing. I found a NH 276 baler for sale for $950. I no nothing about NH balers other than they are suppose to be better than a 14T. My tractor is a Allis WD. I will be baling ditches. How old of a baler is a NH 276? Is it too big for my Allis? Are they a good baler? Priced right for NW Minnesota? Any other input would be helpful. Thanks, Scott

Thanks for all the input on the NH 276 Baler.
I went to an auction tonight and bought a MF 12. They said it worked and it was clean. I paid $425 for it and only had 10 miles to pull it home so I am happy. A guy I work with used to have one and liked it plus he was a implement mechanic if I have problems. I even got the manual with it so I will be reading that tonight and servicing it tomorrow and baling this weekend. (watch it rain now). Anyhow thanks again, Scott

I paid $1000 for my 276 15 years ago. In Texas, they sell for $2000-2500 in working order. They made the baler from around 1968-1976. I also have a JD 346. The JD is faster, but the 276 is built better, in my opinion. If the baler is operational, I would buy it, hands down. NH still uses the "flow action" feed system on the 565 balers, just like is on the 276. Check to make sure the plunger bearings are in good shape, it is not an easy job to take the plunger out of a 276. If the 276 has a super sweep pickup (6 rows of teeth), it will eat more hay than you will want to haul in a day. Good luck.

buy an owners manual read it study it then ckeck everything out. my 276 from a dealer made about 150 bales then flew apart big time gonna take a couple hundred bucs to fix.had a nh 66 before that it was 50 years old and you did have to work on it a lot but kalf the stuff you could make from hardware items. so dont think your problems are all over just because you get a newer baler

I started farming in '72 with a 14T, then went to a 268NH in 74 to get a thrower. My 268 is from the mid 60s- I'd guess the 276 is from the 70s, when they made the 273, etc. Both JD and NH are the best balers you can get, and the WD should have no problem with either one. I ran my NH with the D17, and then the 3020. Your 14T dates to the 50s, so it's understandable that fixing gets frustrating. As long as you have a tractor with live power, like the WD, or something newer, either a later JD or NH should serve you well. Both have good reps- just find a decent baler of either brand.
