In NH line, what model started hydraulic tongue? What other important features should I look for, as in what models to avoid. Saw 469's will go for $500 and up. Loren.

Had a 489 with an encased drive shaft...Bad news as was the swinging boom. Very hard to swing it in and out of the field. Replaced with a JD 1209 open shaft with hyd swing. Night and day.

Well, the 489 we have the swing is really easy with a rope to the release pin. It swings like it is on ball bearings.

Now the JD 336 baler is a SOB to swing, I think it must have been designed to park it and swing the tongue then rehitch. I have to carry a chunk of cordwood to chock the tire with to swing it.

Part of that problem might be more tongue weight on a baler than on a moco. Helps to stop the tractor cocked off to the left, and then back up- or stop on a slope that works to your advantage. And yes, sometimes- you just need to find a rock or a 4x4!
