Problems with cutter knife on NH 477 haybine

Bushing at end of cutter knife keeps getting distroyed. Knife can be pulled out by hand, not stuck. Does anyone have any knowledge of this problem?

The bearings are out in the wobble box perhaps. It is easily fixed with a lot of money.

Roger, I may be talking about something I don't know enough about, but I used to have a 469 and it used up bushings fairly often, probably 2 times a season per blade. (I had 2 blades, which I reccommend). Anyway, I would check the blade end that the bushing goes in. It may be that the end is warped so that the bushing does not make a good fit, in which case you can get a new end to put on. Your bushing does have to be pressed in, dosen't it?

I've had the same problem with my 469. I replaced it prior to my first cutting this year as it was just as you described. I've only had about 12 acres of use on it in 2 years since I replaced it before. Now, I'm not sure how your doings yours, but I've beat mine in with a small sledge and and old socket. However, I really believe this is an item that needs pressed in if you expect it to last.

This year I cut 6 acres after replacing it when things got real noisy and I thought that the cutter bar bushing in question had let go again. It did not. The pivot bearing on the bottom of the yoke failed. (yoke is attached to the cutter bar). I took the yoke off to replace the obvious bad bearing and found I had another bad one in one of the pivots. (Cone was split and bearing coming apart)

Not sure if it is/was bad bearings, or from beating the bushing in causing the premature failure. I would still get it pressed in if able.
