IH 435 knotter transplant

I have an old NH baler with new knotters on it and my neighbor has an IH 435 baler that won"t tie, would it work to put the NH knotters and needles on the IH??? I"m sure it would take some modifying, but due to the wet weather in MN this spring i"m looking for something to tinker with until i can start haying again.. what do you think???

Well funny you should say that. In the late 1970's IH Doncaster got me to try a baler out for them. It was a IH 445 fitted with Rasspe knotters (a la New Holland ) and it seemed to work very well, in fact it later went into production as the 445D and I honestly think there was a 435D version too.( I think the D stood for Deering but don't quote me on that ) Then guess what, IH had a lot of problems with 'industrial action' at the Doncaster factory, They scrapped the baler and transfered baler production to Vicons in Holland, with a completely new range of shaft drive, (as opposed to chain drive )balers that believe it or not were utter trash! . Thus endeth the IH conventional baler production in Europe.
