retiming a 14T JD baler help please

One thing I can recommend, replace the chains, they may have stretched enough to undo your setting of the timing.

What is the problem once you retime it?

Needles not returning to home position all the way or when they are supposed to?

If you are rolling the flywheel by hand to go thru a knotting cycle the needles don't have enough momentum to return all the way home, when operating off the pto even at idle speed they will reset right.

I found that out after I cranked ours thru a few dozen rotations and the needles would never reset, I finally just started the tractor and ran the pto at idle, flipped the lever to start the knotters and it worked like a charm...

Make sure you follow the manual step by step.

One thing to make sure of, when you are putting the knotter drive chain on, make sure that drum that comes up against the roller that drives the knotters doesn't have a gap between the inside of the drum drive "bump" and the roller before you put the chain on. To much space there will throw the timing off as well. I think I tripped the knotters then rotated that drum up against the drive roller then put the chain on to make sure I had as much of the space out as possible.
