Old New Holland 276 Hayliner Twine tie.

I'm having 3 problems. One the left knotter seems to hang up the knot about every 25 bales. The twine balls up and does not slip off the bill-hook and then it breaks that string as the next bale is pushed through. Any ideas?

Second , the knives seem to be dull, the bales are ragged on that side and I shear pins if I let the feed get too heavy. How do I go about changing the knives or can I sharpen them in place with a grinder?

Third, I can only run this baler at 1500 engine RPM.Guess that is about 80% of 540. If I go faster it shears pins like crazy. Why?

Many thanks for your ideas. Edd

Sounds like the wiper arm is not wiping the knot off of the bill hook. There is a brass roller on the wiper arm. Replace it if it is worn. It takes an allen wrench or a hex bit. After you have checked that, lift that side of the knotter up and move the wiper arm across the bill hook. It should take some pressure to move it across. Bend the wiper arm to obtain this pressure.
I'd take the knives out and have then sharpened. Take then to a shop that sharpens knives. You will get a much better job. When you are installing them, they will need to be shimmed to the correct clearance. .030 I think. If you don't have a manual try to get one. Sounds like you could be out of time if you are shearing that many pins. I go all year and never shear a pin.

Don't know much about that one but for the most part all square balers work the same. Sounds like you need to shapen the pludger knifes and or adjust it some. Also sounds like you may have the swiper for the bill hook out of adjustment. Been working on an old JD-14T and its about ready to drive me crazy. But thats how it is with a square baler
