NH knotter trouble

I have a NH 66 baler and it misses about six knots every 60 bales or so. The strings are flattened on both ends , like they went through the tieing cycle , but no knot. One time it will be the left side only and the next time it will be the right side only. It only misses one knot each time. The bales seem kind of loose and bannana shaped for the most part. Would tightening down on the two bale tensioners solve this problem? Does string tension need to be adjusted? Obviously I am new at this and appreciate any help . Thanks in advance. Paul

UPDATE: bailed 85 bales last night and missed 7 bales on the left side and only one on the right. 6 of the seven had no knot on either end and one had a not on one end. I did notice that the bill hook looks rusted on the right side , not shiny. Possibly a new bill hook could be in order? Paul

Paul,

Try loosening up the twine tension spring for the side that makes no knot. The side that makes the knot but doesn't tie it with the other end, check the twine disc timing. I do have a manual for a 66 baler if you are interested.. let me know. Let me know if those adjustments work..

Paul Your bannana shaped bales are probably because the wad board isn't pushing the hay far enough into the bale chamber. look under the baler, there will be a chain that the wad board linkage is attatched to. adjust that so it goes farther into the bale case. As far as the knotter, best to have somebody turn the baler over by hand and watch the knotter to see what part of the tying cycle isn't working. Could be a bad bill hook, twine discs, or knife arm... Hope this helps you out
