Windrows or not

First let me say I am baling hay with an Allis Rotobaler using a Ford 8N to power baler. Last year was the first year using this set up and it went well but we all know the limitations of using the 8N in this situation. I only have 2-3 acres to bale so it was no biggie to start and stop and kick the 8N out of gear for every bale but I got this thought I might try. Instead of raking my hay into windrows could I just tedder the hay and pick it up with the rotobaler. Fluff it real good then just take off baling hay. My reason to do this is it would not require so frequent stops as less hay would be entering the baler and it would be less stress on my old tractor. the chain pickup on the baler should pickup the tedded hay just as easy as it would in a windrow would it not? There is my logic so Iwould be grateful for comments. Another tractor is in the future I hope like a D-14 or WD-45 but for now my 8N is doing the work for me. Thanks for your advice.

Would probably be easier on tractor but am afraid you will have trouble picking it up. mostly hay wanting to bunch up on the outer end of pickn up because of swath being wider than baler.

I'm not sure I understand the problem, as not familiar with those balers 'up close'. :) If you need to stop for each bale, you wouldn't be gaining anything, as you will make the same number of bales either way.....

If the problem is having to stop for big windrows, I'd still try to rake a small windrow. Generally a baler pickup does not pick up very cleanly if the hay is thin, tho again I'm not so familiar with the rotobaler.....

I don't think it'd work as good as you think. You may not be stopping as much, but you'll still have as much hay, meaning just as many stops. More trips around the feild though.
