Hello All: I tried asking about these implements on the JD Board but I only had one reply, which was very helpful.

Late last week I found a implement dealer that I had never seen before and stopped by. He had a No. 9 Mower (3-Point) that was in decent shape - the decals were all there and the gearbox/PTO looked fine. The sickle bar itself had no paint and had surface rust. He wanted $300 bucks for it. MSB suggested that this was a bit high - I only really want to mow the grass down around my house for now - hay possibly someday. the Grass closest to the house is blue grass and the rest of it is what I call Prarie Grass and some weeds with some clover thrown in for good measure. My logic for possibly getting it is that my rotary/bush-hog has sat outside for the last 12 years and I am worried that its "toasted" to the point of it being inoperable. (On a scale of 1 to 10, this mower is a 5.5)

He also had a Fergie 3 bottom that was in good shape and was missing only one coulter. Is it possible to get parts for Ferguson Plows still? I am going to be stopping by my Massey-Ferguson dealer and I was going to ask anyways. He wanted to get rid of it at 150 bucks. On a 1 to 10 scale it was about a 5 - just needed the coulter assembly and it had the long wavy moldboards.

Then lastly, he had a JD 1240 Plateless that he wants to get rid of for $150. The right marker is slightly bent, but over all its in decent shape and was shedded its life and its about a 7.
I want to plant sweet corn with it. I wanted to get a 3 point planter, but at prices closing in on $700 dollars for a decent one, I figured it would be ok. I'd be planting about one to two acres of Corn.

As far as tractors go, I have a Massey-Ferguson 135 to pull it with. I appreciate any advice you all can give me

Thank you!

Christos

Planter would work good for the corn and you can cultivate with either a 2 row or 4 row cultivator, your downside with the planter is amount of seed you will need as you will need a 1/2 gal of seed per row no mater what make or model planter you get to be sure their is enough seed for it to pickup so you are not planting skips, 2 row you will have 1/2 as much leftover seed as 4 row for next year, that mower is a good mower and should hook to your tractor, plow check type and size of bottoms and if you can remove one bottom and use as a 2 bottom, depending on your soil and size of bottoms you may not pull it as a 3 bottom and as a 2 bottom on that small area would probably work better, check type of share; blade, throway or blacksmith sharpen; size 12", 14", or 16" or long moldboard could be schotch bottom and they are 10" and hard to get parts here for

Planter price pretty good if all there, like Tim said easy to fix marker. I have an excellent 9W and would not buy another one, unless trying to match tractor vintage. I have a JD 430 and 730. Again Tim correct, buy a balanced head mower. The plow is OK just have to find a coulter from some junk yard. Most are very similar, buy the closest to original you can then modify if necessary to fit.
