Baler has been working, perhaps too good. Was running down a windrow with about 80 % of the field done, when I realized one of those yellow sheet metal things between the pick up fingers was broke and hanging. I immediately shut her down and quit baling. The part looks like it was welded fast. And of course it is in the middle. Anybody have experience re-attaching the thing??? Can it be welded in place without taking the whole thing apart? I got 300 bales done yesterday and about 400 done last year. Only paid $100 for the baler, so I figure I got my money's worth already It would be nice to finish out the season though.

It is known as a "Stripper Loop"
Yes they are fiddly things to re-attach, it is like working with a clock spring I dont know what you will be calling it while you are trying to put it back together though!

If you must weld it, be sure to have someone with you with a large fire extinguisher or a water hose that is already turned on and ready to put out the fire you will likely start in the old hay and leaves that are in every crack and crevice of an old baler. Be careful and good luck!

If it is the thing I think it is. It was originally bolted on and easy to replace. Knock it off with cold chisle and replace, or run without it to finish up. OR: just weld it back, sounds like a good place for an ox/act torch welder.

Ok now that I"ve seen it in the light of day (not exasperated dusk) I see the loop bolts onto a bracket. The bracket broke loose from it"s welds to the bar. I removed the loop and broken bracket and baled 170 more bales this evening. I suppose I"ll have to get the bracket welded back on yet this summer, but I need to get this cutting in before rain. I figure I"ll need a 1,000 bales to get through the winter. Only got 400 good ones in the barn. Some of what I baled is all weeds and thistle, Makes good erosion control in the gully.
