I am looking to get a small electric motor driven elevator that I can carry on the hay wagon when I deliver hay to the local horse women. We always seem to have to put it up in the loft or in the back of the barn and I need something small and portable. Frankly, my back cannot take much more of this standing on top of a loaded wagon flingin bales across space into the lofts. TSC has one that is upwards of $600....any more economical alternatives out there? Help would be very much appreciated.

Too bad you don't live closer, I've got a 16' electric that is in my way. Make offer. I'm not sure the motor works or not, but the chains move freely. It's a steel base, with wood sides.

Dave: where in Colo do you live? And do you still have the 16' that is in your way.

I can't see that it would be too tough to cut down a full sized one if you could find one cheap at an auction somewhere.

Add another zero and you"ll get the auction price here. $500 for a beat-on used one makes me want to go buy a new one for $675.

In Colorado it is just the opposite. I bought a 30 foot John Deere on wheels for $10 with out a motor. The 16 foot bale conveyers go for $250 with out a motor.

$3.50 for a 50# bale of timothy out of my barn, delivery extra. The reason those things go so high, is that everybody who has animals around here, even just a couple, has a hay mow in the barn, big or little. No one wants to throw bales up there, so they all go after those short bale conveyors when they show up on auction, thinking they"re going to go cheap. Well, you know what happens when 4 or 5 people really want something at an auction.

The ones from TSC is about as cheap as I have seen. I have one similiar to this, and we move it around quite a bit. Mine came with a 1/3 hp motor, but I have replaced it with a 1/2 hp, as the 1/3 hp seemed to get too hot. Just be sure you stick with a 1725 rpm motor. You can get these from Horbor Freight for about $65.
