Baler Twine Advice

I have an old MM baler that is set up for sisal twine. I am having trouble with the twine breaking at the time the knot slides off the bill hook.
The twine is new, but since the baler is adjusted to factory specs and since I have been fine tuning it with no success, I am starting to look at the twine with suspicion. It is from TSC and is made for older small square balers. It seems pretty dried out to me which may mean that it has been in their warehouse a while.
I am considering trying to use higher strength plastic twine. Will plastic twine work in a sisal twine baler?
Any onther twine suggestions would be appreciated!

I run 170# poly by bridon and nothing else, string just wouldn't stay I have to have product year around so it works way better for me and is cheaper as I buy by the pallet. Yes you have to keep it picked up the regular string would also wrap around things also

I had old sisal twine in my baler when I bought it, had lots of knotter problems and couldn't get 'em fixed. I finally, as a last resort, bought new sisal from TSC and the problems went away. Since then, I've been through a fair number of TSC twine bales and haven't had a problem (knock wood), but that's not to say you couldn't have gotten a bad one so you might try a different one.

I personally stick with sisal, though, because it eventually degrades and the plastic just lives on forever...and my baler leaves little pieces of it all over as it knots.

I would give a different brand of sisal a try first. Some is pretty poor....

Plastic _should_ work, but some balers like it less, a very few like it better than sisal. Typically it wears a little bit different on all the parts, and if your baler is wore in on sisal, the plastic might not work as well - but don't know which way it will go unless you try....

Plastic twine is just yukky anyhow, makes a mess of things. Most folks around here hate it. It never goes away.

Plastic is all I use the other stuff brake to easy and doesn't last long because of mice etc. Them old balers some times work better with the plastic also

I had the same problem with TSC sisal twine. I could watch behind the baler and after about two bales down the first one would "explode" (that is what it looked like as you watched it come apart). I bought some twine from New Holland (that is the baler I was using) and problem went away.

It will work fine. I use both sisal and plastic. 9000 ft 130knot and 7200 160knot. If you still have trouble with the plastic look for a burr in the twine path around the knotters

That's good advice by onefarmer. I'm a hopeless dud and only use plastic when someone requests it - otherwise they get sisal - Real Man's Twine!!!
Just Kidding...
I had a similar problem and found that one of the grommets was missing from a routing hole on the chassis of my baler. Can't remember what I used to make a replacement grommet but it worked.

our 336 JD does that once in a while... one summer did it ever other bale... the parts in the knotter were just worn out and needed replaced ( and the brake mechanism as well)

the plastic helps helps a lot... and I use it a lot on the small bales... (its made in North america :) lol) and its cheaper now as well.
