cutter not level

I purchased a pull type 8 ft cutter recently and it cuts very good except that one side cuts lower than the other. The two rear wheels are attached to a non adjustable axle. I don't see any way to adjust the height on the one side other than putting a smaller rim and tire on one side. Will this work ok. This may be a stupid question but I will need to replace one rim and was wandering if a different size would help. thanks for any opinions.

Jrry, it would help if we knew the make and model. All this stuff about tires is mostly b$. Soon you'll be trying without one wheel and you'll almost have it.

I cannot find a make or model number or tag on it. The axle is not adjustable (it is one piece). there is an adjustment for up and down height but it adjusts the whole mower. I swapped the tires without any difference. As someone said it has probably warped over time. I appreciate all the help.

You may be able to 'adjust' it with tire inflation. A little over on one side, a little under on the other. Also consider swapping wheel/tires from side to side if they are different brands/sizes.

Do whatever you have to. Check real good on the tire size. Tires vary a lot, even when marked the same. I bet you can find a tire that will correct it. Like a 700x15 6 ply truck tire and a 7.10 R70 car tire.

thanks for the reply. do you think I should keep the same size rim (15") that is on it and only change the tire size or go to a 14" rim on the side that is higher? The rims are four hole and not many of those around.

Jrry,
You can still buy 6.00 x 15" 6 ply implement tires but lots-a-luck finding a used one that's worth hauling home. You'd probably have to buy a brand new one as implement tires never wear out - they just dry rot to death. (Price around here is $47.00 for a new 6.00 x 15 6 ply)
However, the 6.00 tire should lower one side considerably.

Before I would start putting mismatched wheels and tires on it:1. Check your blades to see if worn out or bent. 2. Check your spindal,blade atttaching arm and gear box for alignment.3 The hitch were it attaches to mower. You have something out of alignment,could be from wear or previous owner might have struck something solid. Might only take a few minutes to straighten up.

JHB, The deck itself is not level. One side is about one inch off the ground and the other is between 4-5 inches off the ground. The blades and shafts are all good. Being a pull type I can't level it with the hitch. I'd rather not have mismatched tires but if that will work I will change one. One rim is bad anyway and needs replacing but thats not causing the problem either. From the responses I guess I should stay with the 15" rims and use the different tire size. thanks

Park it on a level piece of ground and take a level and put it on the axle and then the mower deck and compare the readings, keep doing that until you find the piece that is out of wack.

There is probably a piece suspending the deck from the axle that is to long or short that you can modify to make this level, it was most likely level at one point, just find what has changed before you start trying to fix the symptom by sticking on different sized tires...

Also check the tire diameters with a tape measure, you might have one that is mismatched.
