I dont know if I have problem or not. Yesterday I got about 10 acres or so into my hay field. 469 just cutting like the dickens. When the sun was setting and the dew was coming out. She plugged up good. Not around the rollers but plugged at the cutter bar and stopped the reel.
I cleared the plug then started again and she plugged up again almost instantly.
This time she threw the reel belt. I put the belt back on and noticed that the belt had been streached out good.
I gave up and went home it was getting dark any way.

Today I picked up a new belt.
Got to the field late about 8:30 pm dew just starting to rise.
Put the new belt on and greased her up. STarted cutting and she plugged stopping the reel again. Made one round wile plugging 4 times.

Not sure what to think as this has not happened to me before.

#1 maybe to wet to cut after the dew comes out?

#2 some other problem I havent found as yet. WIll see if I can get out there before dusk to try it again.

#3 It almost looks like the mower gaurds are pointing some what down angle. Not sure because its always looked like that to me.
Manual does not give an indecation as to change the canter of the cutter.

If she plugs again when its not dewing maybe I do have a problem. Just tapping your knowledge.

I've been told to totally let the dew dry off the grass. If we get out early or real late in the dew it plugs. Don't worry about time, if dew is your problem, when the grass dries the 469 will fly through.

Steve from New Holland has covered it well. The 469 I used for years did not like wet hay either. I assume your knives are sharp and none are missing or loose. A disc mower cuts wet hay.
469s are a pleasure to use most of the time.

I have a 469 that plugged the bar alot last year as well. Changing to stub guards helped quite a bit, but is costly. But I also believe my hold-down clips were a little too tight, slowing the knife action down and robbing energy. You should be able to move the knife bar easily, and then of course the knife sections should align closely with the guards.

Hey Kelly, sounds like it is time for a John Deere!! LOL. Just kidding. Kelly, I sort of doubt that the reel is the problem, but we won't rule it out. How about the tension of the belt that drives the knife? Has something happened that the knife is not being driven properly? Did the rubber bushing go bad in the knife head? I would look more to cutterbar trouble than I would reel trouble. Steve

I dont think its the knifes. New sickle last year and I replaced all the sections 10 acres ago.
Bushing is fine on the sickle.

I tried it again today. The reel is stopping as soon as it hits hay, not waiting to plug up 1st.

I am starting to suspect the drive sheaves are loose. I would have checked that today, but didnt have the tool with me. WHen I got to the truck I decided to just go home as I worked 13 hrs today. Didnt feel like messing with it.

Up until that plug up this thing has been bullet proof. I have even drug her through some wet spots where the grass was thick and water over the cutter and she ripped right through it.

I'll throw in one other weird thing I came across. My 469 reel would stall as well. First I made sure the chain that drives the belt sheaves was tight. But that didn't seem to cure it, so I decided to bump the reel speed all the way up. When I disassembed the sheaves, I found that the previous owner had the belt break, and a 1" chunk of the belt had broken off and jammed in the bottom of the sheave. That little chunk was enough to cause the belt to slip.

Kelly,

Did you lose a skid shoe? I know when I lose one the cutter bar drops a little lower and plugs up the cutter bar. How about the reel speed, is it turning fast enough? Just some thoughts.

Good Luck!
