shortening the old mower

Have a '49 Case VAO and got a Case #10 mower last fall. It has a 7' bar and with the native grasses over my 5'10" in the hay field this year, I know the old VAO will run out of grunt. The #10 came in 7', 6', or 5' bar lengths when new. I would like to shorten mine to 5' or maybe 5 1/2. The end looks like it will bolt back on at whatever point you cut it off at. Anyone know of headaches I'm letting myself in for or should I go ahead and oil up the hack saw? Stan

I would give the old VAO a chance before I chopped it up. A sickle does not care how tall the grass is and is fairly easy to turn if properly setup. Alot of 23 hp 8Ns mowed with 7ft bars...

No worries! B-I-L just did it to his IH, I just did it to a neighbor's JD, Dad did it to his when I was little - common practice. You don't happen to have a manual for that Case #10, do you? Sure would like a copy ..... ... 8^)
