What's the best deal you ever got on something to put behind your tractor? (Besides making a reasonable living!!)
Here's mine:

Ford 532 square baler
John Deere 660 rake
Ford 515 7' sickle bar mower

All for $350.00
(No - I did not have a gun on the guy - he just wanted to get rid of the stuff, and I was more than happy to help!)

Good
NI rake (rubber) - $15. Did 800 bales and died (basket blew). 1.8 cents each.

Better
NI rake (steel) - $75, 4500 bales and now sits as backup to primary JD894. 1.6 cents each. Replace for transport reasons.

Best
Ford mod 250, seriers 504 (14-80) baler $85. 6000 bales (1.4 cents ea) and counting.

Farmall 400 w/ Du-Al loader $1750
2 NH 68's $200
JD#5 mower $50
JD 14t baler off Ebay $150

So far the JD 14t tops the list. Just greased her up and went baling. 2nd is my 400, but I did have to put some money in her 1st.

When I worked at the local elevator I would ask everybody if they had any old tractors that they wanted to sell. On day I was given a Minneapolis Moline M5 LP (working condition). This spring I traded an old JD silage cutter for a 4-14 fully mounted MM plow. The cutter hadn't been used for nearly 40 years. I bought a MM UTS gas for $75 running at auction from one neighbor and sold to another for $750. From the same auction I bought an Oliver 3-16 rollover plow $60.

Well, this spring we bought a 54" Kools blower for $35 to replace our $50 one that blew up last year. This one is the easiest we've ever had on the tractor w/ haylage.

Fox 3000 w/ 2 rw corn and hay head, FREE
16' Glencoe $210
small gravity box $110
5-wheel rake $7.50
2 8x16 hay wagons $95 & $105
H&S 230 bushel manure spreader, $300
$24' spike tooth harrow on cart, excellent teeth, $225 (sold our 20' one for $150, needed all new teeth, etc.)
Gehl 970 AND Oliver 1755- $4500 from a dealer. (still paying for the lemon Ollie but the 970 alone is worth the $4500 now)

Those are some that I remember. Just have to be at the right auctions I guess.

I bought a 532 one time for 75 dollars-at the end of an auction and looked liked it had set for some time-used for about 3 years-baling about 1500 bales per year.

I got a case 2-14 Eagle hitch plow for $25. The moldboards had new shins welded on and the trash boards are a little rough but man that thing plows! I used it to plow over some sudan grass that was mowed down, (was a "corn maze") and I could easily pull it in 4th gear. Another deal was a new idea 7' sickle bar mower for $75 and an old hay rake on steel for free. Along with my neighbors JD 24T baler he bought for $200 (rough looking but does'nt miss) I am now in the black after cutting 1 acre for my neighbor.

When Country General was going out of bidness 4-5 years ago, they were selling things at a discount. We got to one pretty close to the last day. The Manager rang it up under "tractor parts" with the discount (70% or 80%), it came out to $1.20. I asked him TWICE if he was SURE that was the price. He said "YUP!" So I left happy as the preverbial clam (and as QUICKLY as I could!).

Just gave a guy some virtual scrap iron, an old torn up disc plow and a 4 foot hog I had been given. Deck had been replaced about 3 times counting the welds and box was in bad need of rebuild. Leaked like a sieve. This was all just old surplus items I had in turn been given.

Fellow just game me a MH62 3 bottom plow in perfect condition for my MF 255. All coulters are there in great shape and almost nothing worn at all. Looks like it had been shed kept for years.

A couple of yr agoI bought a JD 10 foot wheel disc from a fellow for $350,Abolutely nothing wrong other than he had lost one of the lines. Not a chipped disc and all the scrapers were there. I felt real good on that one.

Also, picked up a two row Covington planter a fellow couldn't make work at all for $175. Added a couple of links to the chain on both sides. Works like a champ.

New Holland bale accumulator with the high priced hydraulic pump for $75.00 Was at New holland dealer auction and they could not make it work. I removed the single grouve 6 inch pulley on the pump and replaced it with a 9 inch 2 grove one. Would slip belt and not push bales.
Used it for many years.

Hey Brian,
No offense taken - everyone that hears the story says the same thing! I know the smile was on my face for over a week. This happened a few years ago, so all the "new toys" have been "worked" on since them. You know how it is with farming - seems like somethings always broken down.

Have you had any good deals?

Glad you saw the humor.

No, haven't got a screaming deal on any tractor stuff, unfortunately. YET.

I am a scrounger by nature so my day will come.
