I need a baler to run up about 500 bales of horse hay. I heard about a NH 68 baler and was looking for any thoughts about that baler model.

A great baler for a smaller operation. Ran one for years. First thing to wear and to check for is the feeder arm that throws the hay into the chamber. Next thing is the plunger slides or rollers. Especially with grass, the plunger needs to be so the knives are close together to cut. Alfalfa, not so critical. Chains wear out, but they are easy to replace. Pickup teeth break, but again, east to replace. The little wheel at the end of the pickup is all ways wore out--don't worry about it.

The 68 is a good baler and parts are still available. They were made late 50"s and into the 60"s. The "Super" series of 68 baler has roller"s on the plunger vs wood slides on the standard baler, otherwise they are very much identical.

I gave $525 for mine here in central Indiana, (I gave $400 for S67 6 yrs ago). I do about 500 bales a year myself.

KellyC has a good website that shows some details of the NH68 baler.
