Hydraulics question

This 467 haybine I picked up has only one hydraulic line. I do not have a single spool control valve on my tractor, only two double spool valves. I'm sitting here at work thinking that a double won't work. Do I need a single spool for this in order to get the fluid back to the reservoir?

P.S. I know, I should have thought about asking this question while I was picking it up :)

What brand/model tractor do you have to put it on, and are the remotes factory or after-market add on like Cross mfg? I ask becaue some tractors like our Massey 285 work w/out any adjustments, as well as the add-on remotes I rigged on our 165. Our Ollies on the other hand need some adjustments. I think some Fords will wokr w/out any adjustments either, but never have used a Ford for more than 3 hrs. so I can't say for sure or what models.

Read the operators manual for your tractor, Most tractors I am familiar with can be made to function as a one way system, sometimes as easily as choosing the correct outlet.

If the spool block is double acting the implement will still drop but pressure will build up in the unused spool block outlet, most modern spools have some sort of adjuster to make them work singly, if it has no adjuster, then the simplest way to overcome this, is to get a length of pipe made up, which will conect into the unused outlet and run it to the tractors oil filler plug hole. (all your doing is releasing pressure from the unused outlet)

If you have two spool valves you may as well make it a permanant fixture, that way you'l always have one double acting and one single acting valve.

Yep, that's a good idea, I was thinking of running the second line to the remote but using the fill hole I woulden't have to disconnect it.

On double action controls there are two hoses and the fluid flows in both directions by pressure. Single action uses the weight of the implement to return the hyd oil to the reservoir.

Hope this helps - there are some very knowledgeable guys on this site that know a lot more about it than me. I'm not a mechanic - just a parts replacer... and a farmer!!!

Roper,
Are you sure you can"t adjust one of your hyd controls for single action? On some tractors it only involves turning a valve about 1/2 rotation at the top of the manifold.

I will look at that, This a new spool valve from Tsc. Probably the only double they sell. When the guy I bought it from hooked it up he just plugged it into the outlet remote and raised it. Then I got thinking today, How could he have lowered it? If I was home i'd play with it, Tomorrow i will. I haven't been in a hurry because it's rained here for 9 days straight.

If it has a float position, use it to lower the single acting cylinder.
