Just bought one used. Four rotor. The problem I'm having is that the right side wheels of this thing wrap up so bad in heavy windrows that I have to stop and cut the hay away from the wheels or they'll stop turning. What am I doing wrong? I have the tines set so they are about an inch above the ground at the lowest point.

We had the same trouble when we first got a tedder last season and that hay can wrap some kind of tight! We found that if we tilted to the front almost all the way forward that it threw the hay away from the wheels no more trouble and we have no wheel guards.

Hi, I have the same problem with my NH163. A friend of mine made a shield he bolts to the wheel arm on his to fix this problem. Bill

Bill, quickly, grab your digital camera and run to your friends house and get a pic to post here. Seriously, at least give us a good description. I just tedded 4 acres, and had to stop to clear the wheels twice. Gotta be a better way to run a railroad than this.

I have a Kuhn 4 star. I found out I have to let my orchard grass lay at least a day before I ted it. Even then I have to run at a slow ground speed. I set the tines about like you do. I have trouble with the middle two rotors. I know this doesn't really help you, but I know how frustrating it can be.

Farmer;
My Farr will do the same thing if the I run it too high or move it before the baskets are spinning. I run mine with the tines down in the stubble. It sure can get wound around there some-kinda-tight.

sounds like if your getting hay wrapped around the wheels either you aren't scattering the hay away from the wheels or the gaurds might be missing. Try adjusting the tilt angle
