I'm looking for used round baler. Tired of bucking bales. will run baler with AC D17.
I saw add in local paper with heston 5800 for $1500. Also 605E Vermeer also for $1500. Would like opinions on these two balers and the prices? The add also had a Dutz Allis RM 55 disc mower. Will my D17 pull it ok?

I haven't seen any of this equipment yet. Wanted opinions before I call about them.

Thanks in advance. This board is great!

chas, i believe that you'd be better off getting some other baler than the vermeer 605e. i'm no expert but have a post on here rebuilding my vermeer or getting something else and the general concensus was get another model that the 605e was not a good design

It is not that the Vermeer 605E is a poor design it is 30 years old. The 605E baler was the first open throat large round belt baler ever made. You will spend about the same money to rebuild later technology.

Just sold a Hesston 5580 that the buyer ran with a 60hp NH. Your D17 will do that. It is a 5x6.

Your $1500 is a great price if the baler is in any kind of shape at all.

I learned the hard way and from folks on this board that Discbines are HP hogs. Most need about 60-85 hp to run them they way they are designed.I have a NH 411 collecting dust because my MF 255 won't run it. It's Haybine city for me :)

Chas, The 605E is not a good model, don"t know about the Hesston. Don"t know about that disc mower either, but examine any used disc mower carefully. Check oil, see if you can see the gearbox gears through the oil fill hole if possible, check for leaks, if possible listen to it run. I think the D17 would pull a 3ph disc mower up to 8 feet cut, but I have never used a D 17.
