Tommorow I am going to try to move a NH 489 Haybine around 100 miles from Allentown PA to Southern NJ. the Haybine is around 12' wide which makes it too wide to move without a permit. I would like to try to cock it on the trailer to get it down to somewhere around 10'. If I cannot I am going to try to remove the toungue. A quick lok at this and it doesn't look like fun. The PTO and slip clutch are inside the toungue.

Has anyone ever done this before and/or does anyone have any tips on moving this beast?

Thanks

Terry

I moveg a 489 from Elizabethtown to Near Tamaqua on a 12 foot truck. The hitch is not hard to take off ( in is harder to get back on). Their is a big bolt under the tung where the hitch pivets and a large pin on the top. Lower the header to take the weight off the tung then remove both the bolt and pin and the tung will slide forward the pto shaft will slide apart at the universial joint in front of the slipcluch. When you put it back together again you will remove the cap bolts in the front of the tung that holds the pto bearing then slide the pto back in the tube that is the hitch and copal the back universial joint and slide the tung in place and reattach the big bolt and pin then the capbolts in the pto bearing in the front.
I hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks for the reply Wayne, that is exactly how I did it! Moved it on a 16' trailer just fine. It was a little difficult to rig to lift but we got it done.
