Question: Is Ferguson 3 pt equipment different than others? I ask because an advertised auction has seperated the "Ferguson 3 pt equipment" from other 3 pt equipment.

I have a JD 2510 and would like to pick up a couple of the Ferguson pieces, a 7 foot sickle mower and a hay rake.

Thanks,

Dug

Thanks for all the replys. Sounds like it will work with a few minor adjustments. We'll see how things price out...

Thanks,

Dug

I think Hugh has hit the nail on the head here. I have no doubt you can make it work, but you may need a few adaptors. You will most likely need those adapters for something at somepoint anyway. The reason the Ferguson equipment is broken out from other equipment on the sale bill, is because someone thinks it is more collectable than some other brands. The right equipment in the right place and they would certainly be correct about that. Time will tell in your case.

Rake would work but may need different shaft, Mower probably not as for under axle and on lift arm mounting brackets that would not fit your tractor, compair verry good. You should have the lift arms that you can extent for hookup then snap back in normal operating position and Ferguson would have the flat lift bar and what fits on the flat bar will not fit on the extendable bar. also Ferguson PTO was 1 1/8" not 1 3/8" like you have and that Ferguson equipment is at least 15 years and maby 35 years older than your tractor and was made for max 35 PTO HP, not the 55 PTO HP that you have, Now if it is Massey-Ferguson instead of Ferguson it may be different as newer was designed different

Hi Dug,

Your 2510 has a CAT II hitch and the Massey stuff, more than likely, in that size of equipment, is going to be the little CAT I stuff. You can buy the adaptor bushings at any farm supply store for $10.

You might run into a problem with the PTO shaft lengths tho, take your tape with you or at least know where you can buy the longer 540 shaft sections at the tractor end.

Sounds like you are gettin' ready to make some hay? :>)

Hi Allan,

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'm gonna make some hay alright...gotta do something to keep the tax man off my back. When we bought this property it was classified as Ag Vacant and the taxes ran about $1,000 per year. Second year we fertillized and had the neighbor hay it. Classification changed from Ag Vacant to Ag Rural and the taxes dropped to $80. The neighbor no longer wants the hay as it is fescue and he perfers brome, so...looks like I might as well pick up a few pieces of equipment and bale it myself. I'll make a profit just on the tax savings.

And you thought bankers were bad? We are nothing compared to the evil Tax Man!!!

Taxes/what state?? in reply to Dug, 06-10-2005 14:45:56
Dug,the county I live in says it takes 5 yrs.to get ag.exempt.re-instated if it's ever taken away.If one sells ag exempt. property to person such as developer the county goes back 5 yrs. to access non-ag.taxes.The county I live in and one more in state are the only two that do allow horses to count for ag.exemption.County motto is "Spend more so we can raise taxes" Tx Jim

I think the Ferguson equipment should work fine on your 2510, you will need to reset the sway blocks on the tractor, and you will most likely need some bushings for the pins on the machinery. Be aware that the Ferguson equipment has somewhat of a collectors value, and you may not like the price that it brings.

Dug: I think you have someone with the attitude Ferguson 3 point is maybe somewhat elite. Most of the 3 point equipment built by mainline manufacturers was built to a standard. PTO driven implements sometime need different length shaft for different tractors. Then you also have to watch for Cat I or II, specs are a bit different.

I'm not familiar with your 2510 it is right on borderline where most manufactuers changed from Cat I to II. I would have more concern over difference in Cat I or II than the differences between manufacturers. I ran into this problem with 656 Farmall being first Cat II hitch I'd ever owned. Back in late 60s, most implements at that time were still CatI.

The 2510 is Cat II but I already have all the adapters for CatI. All my implements, so far, have been CatI. Kinda hard to find any Cat II. Been looking but haven't found much yet.

Thanks for the reply,

Dug
