Can"t hack 15 or 20 thousand dollars right now for a silage special. Any suggestions for an older round baler that will stand up to making a couple hundred wet bales a year? What do I need to watch out for? My JD 730 has about 60 hp and one set of hydraulics. Would be interested in buying a suitable machine located in the northeast. Thanks, Gene

A standard Vermeer 504 Super I will bale silage all day long. These balers sell from $5,000-8,000. Make sure the baler has a spiral starter roller. All but the 1992 models will have spiral starter rollers. In haylage if you use the bale restrictors and it will take 50-55 PTO HP.

Thanks for the info. To go back a step further, I have heard that some of the older chain type balers can handle wet bales. Are there any models that stand up better than others? Are they even worth messing with? Have to get down to my budget somehow.
