I know we've been through it a million times, and I've searched the forum, but I still can't get this baler to make a good consistent bale. Windrows are nice and full, speed is good, probably 30 percent of the bales suck out loud. Is the distance between the tines constant, and you move them both right and left to adjust the bale? If so what is that distance, the width of the bale chamber? It seems no matter what I do, I can't get the left side (from behind the baler facing front) of the bale full. Today I didn't have banana bales, they were "S" shaped for crying out loud. Been waiting for a manual to come up on Ebay, but the hay on the ground won't wait.
Thanks for the assist.

I had the same problem with my NH S69. I finaly read the manual correctly. I believe I adjusted the inner fork in and the outer fork out untill the bales were right. I would have to verify that info in the manual. I only have two sets of forks on mine.

Wow. I guess when a 68 does not want to make a bale it just wont.
I have been lucky never had a bannana out of my 68.
Here are a couple things I know.

Good windrow( NH 68 likes em full)

Run so that the hay is picked up as close to the plunger as possable.

Do you have that little triangle peice attached to the pick up chamber, Just before the plunger chamber? I dont know what that does but I guess it makes a real difference.

I have an extra set of tines added to my feeder bar. Seems to help.

Heres a photo of that triangle thing.

Yep, I have the little flap or hay stop, and that helped quite a bit. I've also replaced all the wedges in the chamber and put new springs on the stops under the knotters. And my windrowing technique is honed to a fare-the-well. I see you have a fourth set of tines, including the non-adustable steel set. If you think of the aluminum tines as a, b and c starting from the left, what is the distance between a and c? Judging from the paint, you don't have to adjust much. How far to the left is A from the grease zirk at the end of the tine bar? I also see that the two extra tines are of differing lengths. Thge one to the rear is longer. Is this the result of trial and error, or did it just come that way. I have and extra set, I just might try that and see what happens.

My 68 came that way. I suppose after the 1st million bales through this thing. The last owner figured it out. I am not about to mess with a good thing.

I did replace the shorter ones in the middle with a full lenth set from my parts machine, so I guess thats not an important part of it.

I will get the mesurements you want from mine.

Oh and I found my 68 makes its best bales when she is worked hard. The tractor grunts when shes going good. If you cant hear that mesuring wheel click when the plunger pushes that plug in. Go faster.
The only way a bannanna can happen, is if the bale chamber is not full to capacity. Thats the only way. If you have to unplug the baler a couple times thats a good thing.

If that dont work. Take her to the auction. There are some unfortunate NH's that just wont make a good bale. No matter what fruit you put in, you get Bannannas out.

I have only two sets of tines in my NH68, the fixed set and an aluminum set thats about 4 inches from the end. I've only baled straw so far, and all the bales were the same size and approx weight. I'll admit that the bales are only about 3ft long... my S67 is set with the the tine bars equally spaced, starting about 6 inches from the end attached to the chain.
