i can't beleive you all are just now switching to bolted sections. We have used bolted sections for probelly about 10 years. We have an actual bench mounted rivet sickle servicer, but would still never consider going back. While you can't replace a sickle on a combine, you can in the hay feild. My disc mower is still easier to change blades on than bolts in section. Rivets have out lived their day by along shot.

For the price of sickles these days we rarly rebuild. I usually just buy new. Shoot, a new sickle for my old haybine only cost $90 last year.

I think thats what I paid not sure. I had to get the different hold downs. Total came to $150 for the new sickle and the rest of the parts.

Rebuild is dirt cheap. $26 for new sections and an hr of time.

i agree 100%! as i rebuilt sickles last year i switched over to bolts and will never look back! the rivets do seem to last longer but are a pain to do in the field when you just break one section. bolts for me all the way!

I promise you'll never go back to rivets, although you'll occasionally twist off a bolt. I modified one of those hand-held (riveted) sickle-section changers so I could press out twisted-off bolts and press new bolts in with knife still in machine.

One of those idea's where you look at it and ask "Why didn't someone think of this YEARS ago"....?

As a matter of fact I thought about it several years ago. But I listened to, it will never work. Little bolts will not stand up to the stress like rivets will.
