Hi Again , The hay that was cut Thursday is still in the field . It's dry on top . It's wet under . It's been spitting enough rain all day that I couldn't go and rake it . Looks good though regardless . Might get a day and a half with no rain this week . But work prevails . I'll have to rake maybe tomorrow night after work and bale Tuesday after work . If there's no rain I'll be able to pick it up on Wednesday after work . But if there is rain I'll be able to have the largest bonfire in the county on Saturday ! I don't see any sense in putting wet bales in the barn . I can't afford to salt it . But I've still got 2 acres to cut . Maybe that will turn out better weather wise . Pray for NO rain , I've gotten all I need for the week ! I haven't gave it up for lost just yet . I hope everyone else has had a better 1st cutting than I . Take care ...Randy

I've had it with farming hay! and i hate rain!
it's rained for 9 months 70% of the time here in norcal. rains like hell, gets hotter than hell, and then right about the time it's dry enough, it rains again. we got 2 weeks of warm weather, i watched the reports like a hawk, last weekend, and they said we would have a 10% chance of rai late wed.(today). so i cut it monday.it has poured the last 12 hours.i hate. i am selling my equipment and moving in an apartment.

Randy You will remember to listen for when its dry enough, once you have done it you will alway do it every time. Peace of mind to know that it won't self combust in the stack or barn

Good luck, I was going to cut Sunday,but had rain. Just looked at the forecast, Rain chances 40% the rest of the week. got 24 A to due. Guess I just watch in grow more.

do you already have it in windrows? if not let it go. if so then set the rake high and spread it back out. i've had to leave hay on the ground for three weeks before it was dry enough to bale(not a habit!) it usually takes about four to five good days to dry before i rake and bale. i rake for the first time late morning of the day i bale. i'd rather have dry rained on hay than no hay. you can still sell at .50-$1 a bale and recoupe some cost.

I just had about 25 acres get about 1/4" on it this morning. The rain has stoped now and it is getting hot again, I'll hit it with the tedder this evening and in an hour after I ted it you won't be able to tell it was rained on.
