New Idea 30A Mower

I have a New Idea 30A mower that I use for mowing some pasture. It has a mechanical rope trip lift mechanism and a spring broke that returns the lever that is pulled with the rope. Without the spring, the bar keeps cycling up and down.

Any ideas on fixing this, or where parts might be obtained?

I have had 3 or 4 of these mowers and the band spring was still available a yr or two ago. But you can take a screen door spring and go over top of gear houseing attach one end to bolt that hold houseing cover on in the back and go over top and attach too hole in trip arm where rope goes this will hold tension on arm so brake can stop when arm cam rotates. I also have a model 30A for sale in Ohio

Small world! I live near Heidlersburg :)

If you have to have a NI spring, then did you try Yingling's in Gettysburg? They might have a NI 30A for parts. Or start calling implement dealers in Lancaster county -- I bet that mower is still popular there.

But I would bet that you could find another spring close in size and tension that would work. Tractor Supply has assorted springs, as does Martin's hardware in New Oxford.

The spring is curved flat spring steel, so it would not match up to standard hardware items.
