Plowing questions.

Have a 300U and a fast hitch plow to go with it. 2 bottom, don't know the size. I'd guess 14" or 16". Played a little last fall on ground in the pasture that hasn't been touched with tillage equipment in decades if ever. The plow wouldn't cut more than four to five inches deep. Would that be the hard dry clay soil doing this? Where I was there wouldn't have been too much horse traffic there but several years of it would add up. Fast forward to today. We get about 40-60 inches of rain/year. Different area plowing today, more hoof traffic, ground is damper, of course. Actually wet in the first inch or so. The plow actually cut 10-12 inches deep. Had a hell of a time steering as it kept pulling me right. I had the float pin on the fast hitch in the tool box and the hitch low enough to be floating. The plow has a large steel wheel with heigth adjustments just inside the left rear tire and a skid straight behind the first plow point. I did mess with the toplink last year and it looks to be extended more than I would think right. How deep should a setup like this plow and how do I set the different adjustments to correct? It was pulling hard in first gear.

Can't help you with adjustments but rule of thumb is 1/2 width of bottom for depth of cut or 7" on 14" & 8" on 16" bottoms so you are way too deep at 10". you need to find a manual
