We had no freeze-out on alfalfa down here by New Ulm, which is surprizing. No snow, & got down to minus 23 a few nights in a row. Of course, all afalfa is very very short, it froze off the tops this spring. More dandilions than alfalfa showing on established fields..... Had my first issue with a new seeding last year tho. The oats grew so tall & thick, then it lodged, and then it rained, and this smothered some patches in the underseeded alfalfa. Never had oats grow like that before, don't know what happened. Was driving through some & it was over the hood of the 960 (where it was standing) in spots. Wish I could do that again when I'm trying to grow oats! :) Anyhow, worried about the field coming out at all, so cut it late last fall for hay, was all winter without any snow & cut off short & very cold - and came through without any other losses other than what the oats had smothered. Really surprised me, was figuring that for a loss by February. --->Paul
