I am having some problems with the bale length on my 273. Of course it is probably the nut on the tractor seat that is loose. The rows look fairly consistant after I rake, but I am getting some fairly long square bales, any advice?

The grooved wheel where the trip arm rides on is the most likely culprit, however, the trip arm itself also gives trouble. Take a look at the trip arm and if the surface that contacts the grooved wheel is no longer straight, you may have to replace it as well. Steve

The little grooved washer that moves the trip arm may be worn smooth. This would let the arm slip down a little while going across the field resulting in different lengths of bales. If they are consistant length this is probably OK. We had a 273 for 25 years and replaced that washer a couple of times.

The length adjustment is on the trip arm. Move the stop down to shorten the length. When you push hay through fast, the bale will be a little longer also

Thanks Joe, Can't seem to find my book & I was tired of handling those long & heavy bales.
