Good Feeling - Hay in the barn

I got up last week all of the hay I need to cover the winter for me. Now that the winter supply is in, I can start selling hay. I have screwed up once before and sold the first cutting and lost the second cutting and wound up paying as much for reasonable hay as I got for great hay to make it through. (of course getting rid of those 3 four legged yard ornaments I have would be the smartest thing...) Made a new rule that summer, lesson learned. JD 1207 mowed great, NH 55 raked perfectly and Ford 530 baled it up. Had to rebale a few bales that the hay changed moisture and I did not check and they were too loose, I am suprised it tied them to begin with. All is all the beginning of a decent hay year

WoW! My first isn't even an inch long yet! We just had frost again 3 nights ago. We're still feeding bales! Haven't even planted garden yet, and only mowed the lawn once so far.

I keep enough stemmy first cutting to tide me over and then sell it AFTER the later and better hay is baled and in the barn. In otherwords, firt in-first out leaves me with the best freshest hay for the winter and doesn't leave me short if the later cutting is a flop. Food for thought.

No what I put up is top shelf all the way. I have no problem feeding any hay that I have. This hay is not stemy and is probably around the 14% protein mark and will do my horses just fine. I don't make hay for horses that is not top end..... I will not take hay out of the barn once I put it there... Tooo much labor to get it there.
