farmall H - M axle mounted mower

Neighbour has for sale one of those old axle mounted mowers that goes on a Farmall H or M. Asking $40, looks well used...

How do you lift up the cutter bar, say to go over a rock or something? Did they give much trouble? For some reason "25V" model comes to mind.

axle mount=full carry; 25V=semi mount, drawbar mount with trailing caster wheel. Don't have book handy to get model no. of axle mount but think it might have been HM16

They work pretty well if you take the time to adjust them and replace worn parts. There will be one or two castings that should be full of gear lube, make sure before using it.

The mower came out with a hand lift-lever. Some have been converted to hydraulic by putting a hy cylinder along side the body of the tractor and running a rod back to the lever used to be, many years ago.

I have just bought one of those type mowers and mine has a place where you mount a hydraulic cylinder to raise and lower it. It didn't come with the cylinder so I am not sure as to the dimensions or anything.
