Ok I got to check out the JD 530 round baler yesterday. Baled 4 rolls and had broken twine on 2.

Checked the users manual and did what it said. Had no sins as far as I could tell.

Any way that chaff from the previous roll would cause twine to break as I was baling Johnsson grass that was young and some smaller stuff; trying to clean up the spring weeds.

Otherwise it may be the grooves cut into the guides may be doing it. Will get a file after them.

Pressure plates were original and weren't grooved, PSI on plastic twine was 140 and brand I used before with another baler; twine was not tangled up in roll.

But I will say this, John uses a lot of tension on his twine, has 2 tensioners; course he bales tight bales too.

Didn't roll up max dia. Like it will do 6' and I only had 2-5.5 and 2-5.0 diam and one of each was broken half way thru the tie.....half way down the bale.

Thanks,

Mark

Txgrn, check the glass insulator guides and end of twine tube for a groove. The glass guides on my JD 467 had to be turned because the deep groove cut twine.Tx Jim

Thanks Jim,

I think you're right. I do have some pretty good groves and otherwise there is no mechanism that I can find. Additionally the twine I'm using this year is from the same mfgr, but as I recall last year it was 130 psi rated and it's 140 this year.....course that could be another one of those mind goes first gotchas. Higher psi rating could relate to larger diameter which would interfere with the grooves and allow for cutting.

Thanks,

Mark
