You helped me so much lst year with my sickle bar any tif bits for a semi-rookie with a borrowed mow-co??

Cut Alfalfa/Timothy yesterday. Everything was about 30 inches tall but had fallen over on me. Any secrets(besides a drum mower or disc mower) to cutting tall and thick alfalfa/timothy that has been blown over?

I spent more time off the tractor unclogging the far end than I did riding the tractor? Seemed to cut ok but then just didn't get through the rolls. Could moisture affect this? Ground was a little damp. Is there something that controls the roller tension?(This is a loaner so I don't have a good working knowledge of it) The near end didn't seem to clog but the far end clogged 3 or 4 times a lap.

IF NOTHING ELSE WORKS TRY CHANGING THE ANGLE OF THE TEETH IN THE CUTTERHEAD. YOU CAN DO THIS BY MOVING A HANDLE ON THE VERY END OF THE CUTTERHEAD ON THE LEFT SIDE (GEARBOX}. IT WILL HAVE A NUT TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. THIS MAKES ALOT OF DIFFERANCE IN MINE. IT WAS CLOGGING AND WRAPING UP AROUND ROLLERS. GOOD LUCK.

does that knife have a half section at the end?
make sure that little critter is cutting or it will plug and drive you crazy.

If your plugging at the rolls, I would check the windrow forming shields. Also, wet crop seems to accumulate on the float spring and skid shoe which then backs up into the rollers causing a plug. There isn't much distance between the rollers and the spring. I try to look back thru the header and see how much accumulation is on the top of the spring while mowing. If I am not seeing some of the spring for a while, I get off and clean, which sure beats pulling out plugged crop in the rollers.

Took me years to find that cure. Turned out the end guard didn't ride up against the mower section so it didn't cut well. Needs a washer or two as a shim to line up that guard.

I tried extra pipes to guide the hay and set the reel down low (which helped) but it was simply guard alignment on mine.
