I have an old MM um4 or 5 sickle mower and need a wear plate plus other parts. Does anyone know if a wear plate off of another make might work on this machine? Thanks in advance

Hi , I don't have any direct knowledge of the machine but on my J7 a universal wear plate ( 6" long ) works just fine . If the bar has any wear on the edge you could use a full length wear plate . Or the wear plates from a combine that are about 24" long . That's what I had to do with mine . I got them from the AGCO dealer . You can get the full length ones from sickle service and maybe from a impliment dealer . An AGCO White dealer has access to all kinds of old parts . I just got NOS parts for my Oliver 415 . Got everything I needed and put it together Sunday and mowed the lawn with it . Did a better job than the lawn tractor ! So try AGCO first . My parts ( front and rear caps for the inner shoe , outer shoe sole , outer shoe ledger plate ) cost $ 27.00 total . New pitman stick ( hickory ) at the local lumber mill cut to size and plained down smooth -$3.00 , clamp old stick to new stick and drill holes -free . It took alot of time and patience but it's almost done and completely rebuilt . Keep trying and you'll " Git 'er done " ! ...Randy

Thanks for the info Randy. I did call my local Agco dealer and they didn't have any listing for this mower and didn't want to work with me on matching up parts. There is a real good dealer that is a long distance away which I have stopped for plow parts and had a lot of good luck with them, the only problem is they are a long distance away. It seems like there are fewer and fewer dealers willing to help with this old stuff. I am going to call sickle service tomorrow and see what I can come up with. Thanks again to everyone for the info.

I agree with Glen. I replaced the Ledger Plates on my Massey Ferguson mower with a universal JD plate.

Get ready to cuss though, getting those rivets out can be a real bugger.

Try Sickle Service.com. They have parts for my Oliver Model 82.

Can probably get some universal wear guards at one of the tractor supply places or any local dealer that sells TISCO parts will have them or can get them for you. I have some NOS MM mower parts but not sure if I have any wear plates left. Would need measurements or numbers to identify.

The wear plate itself is about 80 1/2" long and the bar measures 7'. I can't find any numbers on it, it is too worn. Thanks for all the info that everyone has sent. I am going to check on it right now.
