Shaver Post Hole Digger

Bought a used Shaver post hole digger. Have both the 9" and 12" augers.

Getting it ready to use and I want to change the oil in the head. I drained the old oil, and it looked pretty good. Hoping it has not been beat to death. When you are looking at the unit vertical, there are two plugs. One is at the mid point, the other is about 1" above that, over about 2".

How much oil do I add? I am guessing that I pull both plugs, add to the top hole, and when it comes out the lower one, I am done.

Is that right?

I am using 80w-90 gear oil. Is that OK?

Well, I didn't want you to think that we were all ignoring you... :-)

I don't know anything about that brand of PHD, but, if'n it were me... I'd do EXACTLY that (take out both plugs, and add oil through the top hole, til it runs out the bottom one).

I'd say that 80w-90 would be fine, unless it leaks on you... then I might would go for the 85w-140.

Thanks for the advice. I will keep the oil weights you mentioned in mind if I find it does leak.
