New disc mower, but no tedder?

I bought a new Vicon 7'10" disc mower to replace my aging JD 1217 Moco. But I do not have a tedder and can't afford one right now. Assuming weather conditions are right(80+ temp and sunny) can I cut one day, let it lay the next, and rake and bale on the third afternoon? There is one fella around here that I have seen cut with a disc mower and roll it over twice the next day with a rake then bale it that evening and it look like it works ok. What do ya guys thing?

As stated, too many variables. "Here" I know of no serious or even casual haymakers that don't condition with either impellers or rolls. A tedder is also nearly a necessity. I certainly wouldn't want to make hay wthout either one!

Too many variables to give you a definitive answer; what kind of hay; how thick is it; what's your humidity like, etc. Cutting mixed grasses (Fescue, Orchard grass, bermuda, some White, Ladino clover, etc) in the Spring/early Summer, it always worked for me as you've suggested, i.e. cut Mon, rake and bale Wed; later in the year, when the temperature's higher and moisture content lower, I would often bale the day after it was cut..... .

John Deere 270 disc mower, no tedder, Dura-bilt 10-wheel rake on the type hay mentioned. When cutting Sudex (Sorghum/Sudan grass hybrid), have used either Tarrup disc-mower/flail conditioner or NH 289 sickle-mower roll crimper/conditioner. The Sudex is usually about a 4 or 5 day deal.....cut Monday, bale Thursday or Friday. Usually needs to be raked/turned, although at times can be baled in the windrows just as it comes from the conditioner..... ....Only used a tedder one year; Deutz/Fahr which we couldn't keep together and is sitting out behind the shop rusting down. My hay is all for a commercial beef cow/calf operation; while the quality is important, it's certainly not as important as that fed to high dollar horses or dairy cows.

The thing has 15 or 18 years worth of honeysuckle and multi-flora roses growing up through it; if I can get to it, I'll look (may can find the operator's manual, which would be simpler); may be a day or two..... ...

I've got a KH500 four spool and one of those silly combination tedder/rakes (which doesn't do either one very well) I'd be interested in your manual if it's for one of my machines (provided you want to part with it)

I am mainly doing mixed grasses and some timothy. No sudan or alfalfa or anything else, just some fescue, and timothy. I am going to give it a try with just my disc mower and only cut when I know I am going to have a 3-5 days of decent weather. I might be able to afford a new tedder in a month or so but after spending $3000 on my Oliver 1955 to get it ready to bale and buying the new disc mower and the new Kubota ZD21 zero turn mower I am a little poor right now. I got right at $40,000 in this hay hobby now and gonna do 100 acres this year. We'll feed about 25% of the hay to our own horses and donkeys and I'll be selling the rest so it is not a money maker but I enjoy it. The wife doesn't seem to mind me spending all this money on this deal, she keeps telling me if I need it, buy it. My grandpa tells me some people have $50,000 boats or moterhome's and the like, so if I enjoy doing this(which I do), whats the difference. But I am beating my brains out on weather I need a tedder or not. I guess I'll run without one for the first two fields which I'll be cutting this weekend and see what happens. It'll be about 15 acres or so, so it'll be a good test run. Thanks for the info fella's. I appreciate it.
