Trailer unload / overload question

Got a question about my new-to-me 6 year old trailer.

It is rated at 2990 GVW, and weighs 850 lbs empty.

Right now I have a 600 lb implement sitting on it...unfortunately not positioned in a way to make loading easy. I would like to unload it with my 2400 lb tractor, but this will put me over the weight by several hundred pounds. I DO NOT want to damage the trailer, either deck or axle, by overloading it just to get this thing off. But my alternative is hooding a chain and dragging it off, which is going to drag into the wood deck quite a bit.

Can I use my tractor to unload without any chance of damage, or is there a better way?

thanks,

Tom A

Invite several of your friends/relatives over for beer and brats.

Do the lifting before the drinking, however.

$50 will get you a chain hoist to lift it up, pull trailer away.

$75 will get you a 3pt lift bar/ jib bar which will lift the implement up, pull trailer away.

Block the trailer some as someone suggested.

Likely a few 100 lbs on a static load wouldn't hurt to begine with, the trailer is rated to be haulin down the road, standing still & you move slow.....

Tractor with loader works very good. But if you don't have one with a loader or know someone with one your at a loss. Do you have any large trees with a branch that you could put a chain hoist/come-a-long on? If you do just back up under the tree and lift the thing up and then drive out from under it and let it down on the ground. I've loaded and unloaded many things that way.

Do you have a neighbor with a loader? That would be best. If you must use your tractor, take blocking and support the trailer. Maybe 4 blocks per side, with a couple oak planks on top. You want the frame of the trailer well supported by the blocks.

Just hauled home a 3-pt IH 45 Vibra field cultivator...18-1/2'. Used a tractor with a front-end loader to lift it up. Backed trailer under a bit. This trailer has a tilt bed. Lowered it on 5/8" blandex (waferboard 4X8) sheets. Rehooked on the other end of the cultivator and slid it on the trailer using the sheets of blandex. When I got home slid it off. Never made a mark on my boss's trailer.
